Newspoll back down to pre-Julia levels

Newspoll this morning is reporting that the Labor/Coalition split is back to 52% to 48%. This is just a statistically significant result. Their measure of the relative popularity of the leaders is certainly statistically significant with a sharp decline in Gillard's approvals and an increase in her disapprovals.

 
Labor leads by 8 points first week - Nielsen

Nielsen reports that Labor leads by 8 points and attributes this to a surge in female support for Julia Gillard. The wrinkle in their result is that Labor support is low in Queensland and West Australia, making the result potentially closer than the raw figures suggest.

Morgan confirms Newspoll. There appears to be a huge gap between Labor and the Coalition which has opened-up over the last month. While electors were initially slow to warm to Julia Gillard they have now conquered their shyness.

According to a Westpoll published in the West Australian the female vote is helping to shore up Labor's position in West Australia.

 
Gillard's popularity surges - Morgan

Gary Morgan reports that Julia Gillard's approval rating has surged in the last month jumping 18 points to 58% against a disapproval of only 26%. Tony Abbott's approval has dropped 6 points to 42% and his disapproval increased 7 points to 48%.
