Gap closing, but gender gap stil there - Morgan |
Morgan shows a closing of the gap between Labor and Coalition, but still gives a healthy margin to the government of 6%. The change is one percent, and therefore not statistically significant. What is really statistically significant is the gender gap. According to Morgan 58% of women are voting Labor while 51.5% of men are voting Coalition. It suggests that Julia Gillard is winning the election not for what she can do, but for what she is. Not withstanding the gender gap, since the debate Julia Gillard's job approval has fallen to the point where she is on par with Tony Abbott 46% approve of the job both are doing, although she still has the edge as preferred Prime Minister by 48% to 33%. Morgan also shows that the gender gap is tending to narrow with Abbott making up much more ground with women than men. |
